Andrew Bogut out 2-4 weeks with leg injury

November 19th, 2009 | by adamburnett |

The Bucks organization is riding high off to a 6-3 start with the most electrifying rookie Brandon Jennings providing a spark for the franchise.  The surprising Bucks have started to get more national publicity and things couldn’t be any better right now.  Unfortunately, the Bucks will be without center Andrew Bogut the next two to four weeks with a left leg strain and contusion.  He missed practice on Thursday and underwent a magnetic resonance imaging exam.  Bogut scored 21 points and 11 boards in the Bucks 99-85 win over the Nets before leaving the game after banging his leg against another player.

Bogut was off to a great start this season, averaging 16.1 points and 9.2 rebounds in 33.6 minutes per game. In other Bucks injury news, shooting guard Michael Redd went through the Bucks’ non-contact practice session Thursday, but said he wanted to have a contact session before returning.  His knee has been a problem for a long time and I wouldn’t have him rush back.  Forward Luc Richard Mbah a Moute also is out with a left foot sprain he suffered on Monday against the Mavericks.  The Bucks may be short handed when they host the Bobcats on Friday.

I would anticipate seeing more of Dan Gadzuric, Kurt Thomas, and Francisco Elson to fill in for Bogut.  Elson hasn’t dressed all season, but I would rather see him play over Thomas.  None of these players can completely fill in for the offensive production of Bogut.  The Bucks are going to have to find scoring from other players.  Gadzuric and Elson can score on breakaways or put backs.  Jennings ability to drive into the paint and draw defenders may get these guys some dunks.  Passing the ball into either of these guys on the block would be helping the opponent’s defense.  Defensively the trio should be able to pick up some of the slack.  I hope that Thomas is the third option to play if Gadzuric or Elson get in foul trouble.
